Songs

Whenever I hear these songs, I am reminded of someone.

Power of Two (Indigo Girls)

Now the parking lot is empty
Everyone’s gone someplace
I pick you up and in the trunk I’ve packed
A cooler and a two day suitcase
‘Cause there’s a place we like to drive
Way out in the country
Five miles out of the city limit we’re singin’
And your hand’s upon my leg

So we’re ok, we’re fine
Baby I’m here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I’m stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Look at them together then we’ll take them apart
Adding up the total of a love that’s true
Multiply life by the power of two

I know the things that I am afraid of
I’m not afraid to tell
And if we ever leave a legacy
It’s that we loved each other well

‘Cause I’ve seen the shadows of so many people
Trying on the treasures of youth
But a road that fancy and fast ends in a fatal crash
And I’m glad we got off to tell you the truth

So we’re ok, we’re fine
Baby I’m here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I’m stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Look at them together then we’ll take them apart
Adding up the total of a love that’s true
Multiply life by the power of two

All the shiny little trinkets of temptation
Something new instead of something old
But all you gotta do is scratch beneath the surface
And it’s fool’s gold
Fool’s gold

Now we’re talking about a difficult thing
Your eyes are getting wet
I took us for better and I took us for worse
And don’t you ever forget it

Now there’s steel bars between me and a promise
Suddenly bend with ease
And the closer I’m bound in love to you
The closer I am to free

So we’re ok, we’re fine
Baby I’m here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I’m stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Look at them together then we’ll take them apart
Adding up the total of a love that’s true
Multiply life by the power of two

"Gustung-gusto ko talaga yang kantang yan!" she would say.  Actually, attached with this song are bad memories of sleepless nights for our network project, especially when the "monster" part is sung. It is her favorite song, but it will never be my favorite. haha :)

Another song, from Toy Story, which we watched together:

You’ve Got a Friend in Me

You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you’re miles and miles
From your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boy, you’ve got a friend in me
Yeah, you’ve got a friend in me

You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
If you’ve got troubles, I’ve got ‘em too
There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you
We stick together and can see it through
Cause you’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me

Some other folks might be
A little bit smarter than I am
Bigger and stronger too
Maybe
But none of them will ever love you
The way I do, it’s me and you

Boy, and as the years go by
Our friendship will never die
You’re gonna see it’s our destiny
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me

The only Japanese song we’ve memorized, Nagai Aida:

Nagai aida matasete gomen
Mata kyuu ni shigoto ga haitta
Itsumo issho ni irarenakute
Sabishii omoi wo saseta ne

Aenai toki juwaki kara kikoeru
Kimi no koe ga kasureteru
Hissashiburi ni atta toki no
Kimi no egao ga mune wo saratte iku

Ki zuita no anata ga konna ni mune no naka ni iru koto
Aishiteru masaka ne sonna koto ienai

Here’s another one, this song was very popular then, back in 4th year college, by M2M:

Mirror, mirror hanging on the wall

you don’t have to tell me
who’s the biggest fool of all
Mirror mirror I wish you could lie to me
and bring my baby back
bring my baby back to me

Mirror mirror lie to me
Show me what i want to see
To meeee…
Show me what i want to see

We had our philo version inspired by Dr. Ibana:  Meno, meno hanging on the wall… (Was it you who came up with that or was it me? Or was it your weird "feeling close" seatmate whose name I still remember but I won’t mention? hahaha :)

The entire "Beauty and the Beast" soundtrack reminds me of her:

Belle:
Little town
It’s a quiet village
Ev’ry day
Like the one before
Little town
Full of little people
Waking up to say:
Townsfolk:
Bonjour!
Bonjour!
Bonjour! Bonjour! Bonjour!
Belle:
There goes the baker with his tray, like always
The same old bread and rolls to sell
Ev’ry morning just the same
Since the morning that we came
To this poor provincial town
Baker:
Good Morning, Belle!
Belle:
Good morning, Monsieur.
Baker:
And where are you off to, today?
Belle:
The bookshop. I just finished the most wonderful story
About a beanstalk and an ogre and a -
Baker: That’s nice. Marie! The baguettes!
Hurry up!

She can be any of the characters in the song on her own, which amazed the Japanese during our conquest of Disneyland.

There are many other songs but I have to stop right here and get back to work.

I didn’t hear any of these songs recently. Maybe I have to fix the first sentence of this post.

Lalyn reminds me of these songs.

She is a song herself, a happy song… (mwahahahahaha…. tama na trying hard na ako? Corny!:) Lalyn, basta yun na yun!)

I’m looking for a picture of Lalyn and me to post here, but I can’t find a decent one! Considering she’s one of my closest friends in the Philippines, in Asia, in the world, in the universe, that is weird, isn’t it? Weirdox!

Happy birthday, Rariinsan!
